Introduction

Before you begin to “Listen to Your Story,” you’ll need:

  • A journal of some kind to record your answers for and reflections on Part One, Part Two and Part Three.
  • Time — It could take anywhere from a few hours to a week for you to go through each part of “Listen to Your Story.” You could finish the whole process in three or four hours or you could spend a month on it. (Ideally, you should take a week to complete each part, then another week to reflect on all three.) It just depends on how thorough you are and how much you involve others in the process. Start by giving Part One an hour a day of your undivided attention for a few days or carve out a chunk of time on a weekend, and see how far you get.
  • Companions — Invite at least two others to go through this process with you. A group of 4 or 5 is best.

In Parts One and Two you’ll answer questions about yourself for yourself (or your community) so you can effectively summarize your story. In Part Three you’ll reflect on how you could integrate your story “as it is” with your story “as it could be.”
